I GOT FIRED...FINALLY
Finally…yes finally. It has all come to an end, the day I end my service to the government. End of it all and all I feel is a little gladness and tiredness. To think that last year I actually plotted to sabotage my CO’s office with a dead rat while leaving my name there, just so that he would FIRE me. But of course I didn’t, I wouldn’t get fired, I’ll just be AWARDED with more opportunity to bring extra service to my country. I’m not so stupid.
It is definitely a good feeling, leaving the island with all my bags. Passing by people and it will immediately strike to them, “ This is a good man. Leave and don’t ever look back.”
I still remember this year’s Chinese New Year, where I had my futile effort to collect more red packets for extra allowance. I actually brought mandarin oranges to camp for my chief clerk, which then she took out her son’s donation card and I donated $5. She later, out of guilt, gave me a red packet with $4 inside. Very scheming woman. This is just one of the many funny moments I was recalling while on my way home. I was trying to hide my smile so that other commuters will not think I’m a lunatic smiling to myself.
Had numerous handshakes, farewells and answering to the question “Hey when you ord ?”
This is definitely a rewarding experience for me. Making new friends and finally understanding the importance of sincerity while socializing. A formula I told my understudy, Joel, whenever he faces a problem, is to know the subject and know who to look for. Even for the Head Manpower officer who I very seldom or close to zero socializing with, told me something meaningful today. He assured my decision to study and to continue living like a brat, is a correct decision. No of course he didn’t agree with the living like a brat, but to me these two come together.
Regarding my reservice, i already had a rough idea at a very early part of my service. It was that day i saw this old, no i shouldn't say he's old but more like very matured, man at the headquarter. He was slogging on the office chair while reading newspaper and he could practically use his belly as a coffee table for his convenience. It was that day that i know..."This is my future. This will be me." It was that day that i know i will have a self-rewarding reservice time, reflecting on my life, reading up on current affairs and deciding on whether i should be switching inbetween chaw kuay teow and laksa for lunch on alternate days. Yes.
End of the day I just want to say that it feels good, to hell with that island and lastly, that my mother will be shocked to see the amount of clothes I brought back home to increase her productivity. I know she will go like this…
“ Wah!

Motivating Changes
Received my transcript from Temasek I requested last week, which cost me $10. Further proves the fact that I am an average student, looking at the grades. B,C,B,C and occasional Ds, even F for model making. But to my surprise, I got an A for one subject and that is Cultural Anthropology. I have to recall very hard on what the hell I did to get an A for that and then I finally remembered I did an observation on how people can motivate changes.
My observation is done on basic daily activities, on the things people do for their convenience which inturn motivates how differently things can be done.
For example, the pavement around the neighborhood, you will find certain constructed pavements that guide which way people should be walking or pre-thought on which way people will be walking. The pavement leads to the road and there is a traffic light 30 meters to the left. Across the traffic light is a shopping mall which people often visit. So instead of walking by the proper pavement and then making a left turn to the traffic light, some people will cut across the grass patch diagonally to shorten the distant. Day after day, an obvious path will be seen on the grass and more people start to take that shorter path instead of the constructed pavement. Then after some time, you will see proper pavement is laid on the dried grass patch. Same to certain fields you see next to bus interchange, Pasir Ris is one of them.
If you put serious casual thoughts about it, you may notice such changes and how it could be due to previous actions done. The stairs, lifts, corridor, seats at void decks and etc. By observing the changes in the surrounding and studying the behavior of people interacting with the surrounding, you may even deduce what you will be expecting before it even happens. Or maybe you could intentionally motivate such changes by indirectly motivating the common users to follow your actions. This will generate more users to drive this change permanent. Now wouldn’t that be fun?

Chinese Room
Reviewer: KC "metroxing" (Northern CA)
This is a serious blending of Chinese traditional music and trip hop downtempo acid jazz. If you like both equally as much, you will appreciate this nicely blended mix of East & West. For mixologists and DJ's - If you want a few exotic tracks to drop into your mix for an audience that appreciates you stretching the boundaries - then this CD is for you.
There are a lot of dance CD that purports to be Chinese exotic but are afraid to venture too far - just dropping in a few gongs, a few pipa or a few zithers and some audio sounds of a martial arts movie over a thumpa-thumpa bed of bass lines ... if that's more your cup of ... er ... Lipton ... then this CD is not for you.
This is a serious mix of Chinese traditional music and trip hop ... but also know, it's not just some New Agey attempt at 'chill.' This is not just some quasi-Asian riffs dropped over a bed of drum machine bleeps ... but serious downtempo trip hop all mixed nicely with the traditional music of China.
Your path outside the safe begins with this CD ...
